Luke Young may deputise at left-back

Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth

SKIPPER Luke Young is likely to switch to left-back for Saturday's Premiership clash against Portsmouth as Charlton try and cope with mounting injury problems.

Young moved to the left after the loss of Djimi Traore during the defeat at Chelsea and looks set to continue in that role with Traore facing a lengthy lay-off.

Radostin Kishishev could play at right-back.

Manager Iain Dowie's biggest dilemma is in central defence. Souleymane Diawara is out with a muscular injury and Hermann Hreidarsson serves the second of a three-game suspension.

Jonathan Fortune, who broke a toe three weeks ago, may be fit to resume alongside Talal El Karkouri. Alternatively, Amady Faye could make the switch.

Better news for Dowie is the form of Uruguay international midfielder Omar Pouso, who enjoyed an outstanding debut for the reserves in Monday’s 1-0 defeat by Chelsea Reserves at Gravesend’s Stonebridge Road.

"I thought he did exceptionally well," said Dowie, who would not be drawn on his chances of starting on Saturday.
