Dwyte Smith recorded a best leap of 6.90m

New Romney's Dwyte Smith finished third in the men's long jump competing for Great Britain in a jumps international against the Netherlands in Appeldorm on Saturday.

The 17-year-old Marsh Academy student recorded a best leap of 6.90m, 0.34m outside his personal best, to finish behind compatriots Jamie Blundell (7.45m) and Leigh Smith (7.41).

He said: "Although I beat all the Dutch jumpers, it was a bit disappointing because I got an attack of cramp and could only complete two jumps."

Smith will now turn his attentions towards preparing for the outdoor season, starting with the county championships in May.

His PB outdoors is 7.16m and he said: "My main targets this summer are to improve my PB to 7.60m and to qualify for the European Junior Championships."
