Invicta Dynamos maintained their 100 per cent start to the group stage of the ENIHL Cup, defeating Milton Keynes 5-2 for the second time this season.

Before last night’s tie, head coach Kevin Parrish admitted it may take his side a few minutes to get used to the large ice surface on offer at Planet Ice, and so it proved. The home side scoring first at 1.48.

However, Invicta soon levelled through Lawrence Billing’s first marker for the club at 5.04.

Anthony Lennon’s shorthanded strike sent the visitors into the intermission 2-1 ahead, but MK’s Jamie Randall tied the scores after the restart.

Not to be discouraged, Invicta’s main sniper Martin Melichercik scored his eighth and ninth goals of the campaign, the second another shorthanded effort, to put Invicta 4-2 up. Elliot Andrews completed the scoring in the third period, with help from Milan Kostolny and AJ Smith.

The victory was important for Invicta’s hopes of qualifying for the latter stages of the competition, as closest challengers Peterborough Islanders collected four points from four over the weekend with victories over Haringey (12-0) and Chelmsford (6-5).

Invicta host Peterborough this Sunday in a game that will go a long way to deciding the winner of the southern group.
