Invicta Dynamos suffered heartbreak in the ENIHL Cup South decider after losing 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out against Peterborough Islanders on Sunday.

The weekend series was scheduled to decide who would play Sheffield or Kingston in the ENIHL Cup semi-finals with the Dynamos now going on to face Sheffield.

The Dynamos suffered a 5-1 defeat in the first leg at Peterborough on Saturday, with Elliot Andrews scoring the visitors consolation.

On Sunday, Mos had it all to do but quickly took the game to Peterborough and opened the scoring after four minutes through Alex Shaw.

Anthony Leone doubled the home side's lead as the first period ended with the Dynamos winning 2-0.

Grant Baxter scored twice to give the home side a 4-0 advantage at the end of the second period.

In the final period, goals from Kevin Parrish and Leone made it 6-0 before Ross Mackintosh pulled one back for Peterborough.

The Islanders now needed a goal to level the score on aggregate and with just four seconds remaining a goalmouth scramble was brought to an end when the puck was poked home to make it 6-2.

With the game over and the score level at 7-7 on aggregate, the decision was made to go straight to a penalty shoot-out with ice time running low.

After five penalty shots each the score was level at 1-1 with Leone on target for Invicta and Jason Buckman scoring for Peterborough.

The shoot-out moved into sudden death with Jamie Holland scoring to put the pressure on Leone.

After scoring Invicta's first, Leone was out of luck as his shot crashed back off the post to end the tie.
