A home Gillingham debut beckons for new striker Craig Fagan against Oldham this weekend.

And the 30-year-old admits he is much happier to be turning out at Priestfield representing the home side.

He said: “I didn’t used to like coming here. It was an intimidating place to play, with the stands close to the pitch and if the fans are with the home team. it can help.

“As an away player, it is intimidating to come. I’m looking forward to getting out there now and helping to make this place a bit of a fortress.”

Fagan has signed on until early January, after Gills boss Peter Taylor ended the player’s long search for a club.

Since being released from Bury in the summer, Fagan had been without a club.

The former Derby County forward was left training wherever he could and eventually ended up at Priestfield, to link up with Taylor for a second spell.

The two had been together at Hull City, where Taylor moved the frontman to the right of a three-man attack, exactly the same position where Fagan made his Gills debut at Sheffield United last weekend.

“I’ve been enjoying it here,” said Fagan. “I’ve got to know the lads at training and it’s just good to be involved with a club again."
