FURIOUS Charlton supporters called for the sacking of new head coach Les Reed and the appointment of former West Ham manager and ex-Addick Alan Pardew as the club were dumped out of the Carling Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

After watching their side humiliated by League 2 Wycombe, the fans' patience snapped and there was a demonstration outside the directors' entrance at The Valley.

Reed, who first took charge at Reading on November 18 after succeeding Iain Dowie, failed to attend the after-match press conference.

Waiting journalists were first told that he was in a meeting with Charlton plc chairman Richard Murray, which gave rise to speculation that his seven-match tenure was about to end with the sack.

Then, at 11pm, it was revealed that he was locked in the dressing-room with the players.

The official line was that both Charlton managerial legends Lennie Lawrence and Alan Curbishley had been given time after making uncertain starts.

But the mood of supporters, who are renowned for their patience, could force an early and unwanted change.

Wycombe match-winner Jermaine Easter rubbed salt into Charlton's gaping wounds by declaring: "I don't normally get that amount of room playing in League 2. I was very surpised."

Easter, who had scored in all the previous rounds, produced a crisp finish in the 35th minute to heap more misery on the home side who were jeered off at half-time and the end to taunts of "you're not fit to wear the shirt".

Charlton: Carson, Sankofa (Hasselbaink 74), Diawara, Fortune, Traore, Rommedahl, Faye (Holland 70), Hughes, Thomas (Sam 70), M Bent, D Bent.
Subs not used: Myhre, El Karkouri.
