Match winner Dennis Oli hasn’t given up hope that Gillingham can claim an automatic promotion spot in League 2.

The winger clinched maximum points for the Gills from Monday’s promotion battle against Dagenham with an 88th minute goal.

He said: “To come on and score the winner is a really good feeling and the boys are buzzing. We’re in a real good position and if we can go on and win our remaining games anything could happen.

“You have to keep going until it’s mathematically impossible that you can’t get there and we’ve got a never say die attitude.

“It could go either way. We’ve got to win and to not look behind us and to chase the people up there. If we fall short of the automatic places then we’ll take the play-offs and give it our best shot.

“We go to Chesterfield on Saturday and, although it will be a hard game, we’ll try and get something from that game and see what happens.”

Oli’s goal on Monday was his fourth of the season.

“It’s a big weight off my shoulders as scoring goals for me is vital,” he said. “To score the winner felt brilliant and the fans were singing my name and it felt great.

“The boys were bouncing off the walls afterwards and now we can’t wait until the next game.”
