CHRIS KINNEAR : better times coming along?

MARGATE face Weston Super Mare at Ashford's Homelands stadium on Saturday knowing that a move back to their own Hartsdown Park home is a little nearer.

The Nationwide Conference South club have written to Thanet District Council accepting the latest terms set out in their written offer which will allow the proposed redevelopment to go ahead.

The redevelopment proposals will go before the council cabinet on Wednesday, November 10, for approval.

Despite recent uncertainty over Margate's future, a spokesman for the club denied there had ever been any doubt about Saturday's match going ahead.

Margate plan to announce a timetable for building works after consultations with architects.

Plans, visuals and full information on the progress and timing of the stadium will be made available to supporters, and displayed in the newly refurbished social club at Hartsdown.

The signing of an agreement with the council will trigger the immediate introduction of £300,000 of new funds and the appointment of three new additional directors.

A statement from the club said: “It will immediately stablise the club’s trading, guarantee the club’s future for a return to Hartsdown and allow the manager (Chris Kinnear) to commence the rebuild of our team.”

One fan said: “Let’s hope this is the end to a long running tale, that has been a nightmare for the fans and the people involved with the club.”

It seemed Margate’s future was assured after last ditch talks a fortnight ago, only for doubts to resurface again late last week. On Tuesday Gate lost 2-0 at Sutton.
