Burnley 1 Gillingham 2

GILLINGHAM moved up to ninth in the Championship after picking up maximum points in this incident-packed game.

Iwan Roberts put Gills in front after he got in the way of John Hills' shot and the ball trickled in.

Steve Cotterill was sent off shortly before the break for something he said to the fourth official.

Darren Byfield put Gills 2-0 up in the second half and Byfield was involved in the flashpoint of the game when he was fouled in the box and the referee gave the penalty.

Ian Moore headed home Michael Duff's cross just before the end but Gillingham held on in a game that had eight bookings and two sendings off.
