GILLINGHAM kept their second successive clean sheet as they held high-flying Leyton Orient in League 1 at Brisbane Road.

For a second match running, Mark Stimson?s side were able to keep out a team chasing promotion as they recorded a rare goalless draw.

Leyton Orient went closest to taking a first half lead when Adam Barcham clipped the post with a shot early in the game.

The visitors were finding it hard to get their range with Adam Miller, Barry Cogan and Gary Mulligan all missing by some distance.

Gillingham offered more of a threat in the second half and Miller looked to have won a penalty, after being fouled in the area by JJ Melligan, but referee Kevin Friend was having none of it.

Mark Bentley tested the keeper midway through the half, while Miller and Andrew Crofts both went close with headed efforts.

Manager Mark Stimson was delighted with the point as his side made it three unbeaten in League 1.

?I?m very happy with the point because it was always going to be a difficult game,? he said.

?The 29th of December is the first time they?ve dropped outside the top six and that shows you what we were playing against. In the end we could have won it."

He added: ?We showed a lot of heart, a lot of courage and again quality.

"There was some good quality out there and the link up play was even more pleasing to see."
