JEPSON: "When you’re safe and you’ve got 10 or 12 games to go, then you’ve got nothing to lose"

Gillingham v Rotherham

GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson to confirm their safety in League 1 earlier than last season so they can play with more freedom and chase promotion.

Despite last weekend's defeat at Bristol City, Jepson is confident his side has the quality necessary to push for the play-offs, starting at home against Rotherham on Saturday.

He said: "If you look at the play-offs since we’ve had them, the teams who do come late do well, because the teams who have been up there all season start to feel the pressure.

"Maybe players then have a bit more freedom. When you’re safe and you’ve got 10 or 12 games to go, then you’ve got nothing to lose."
