GILLINGHAM manager Mark Stimson has explained his decision to drop Simeon Jackson for the first time since signing him for £150,000 from Rushden at the end of January.

The striker failed to score in his opening four games and was dropped to the bench against Yeovil on Saturday.

Stimson said: "He's given everything he's got and looked bright in games but he's not had that little bit of luck and sometimes you have to think will it be better for him to sit and watch. I thought that would be best.

"He's someone who has a good future at this club and I'm sure once he does score a goal he'll kick on and get more."

Starting in his place was Leroy Griffiths.

"He's had to wait and be patient," said Stimson. "He gave his all and did well. I've always got belief in Leroy that he'll do well, possibly more as a substitute than a starter but he put in performance that may give him the shirt to start again on Tuesday."
