Mark Stimson: "If we did get through and pull a big club, then what a difference that would make"

Gillingham v Stockport

Gillingham take on Stockport in the FA Cup on Saturday with one eye on a potential money-spinning third round tie.

Finances at the club are tight and Gills manager Mark Stimson knows victory on Saturday could set them up nicely.

Stimson said: "It would be a massive help if we could win this game."

"The prize money alone stands at around £30,000. If we did get through and pull a big club, then what a difference that would make.

"You can’t stop people talking about who we could get in the next round but we won’t be thinking about that. We’ll be thinking about Stockport and trying to get a result because it will be difficult."

Stimson’s main on-field concern ahead of Saturday’s game was the fitness of centre-backs Garry Richards (knee) and Leigh Mills (face).

Both were injured against Rochdale on Tuesday night and Stimson rates their chances at 75 per cent for Saturday. Mark Bentley is on standby.

Forward Andy Barcham comes back into the squad after a facial injury but Nicky Southall is cup-tied.
