Gills lacking in firepower

Simeon Jackson had a poor game against Shrewsbury

Simeon Jackson's performance on Saturday was the worst of the season so far admitted manager Mark Stimson as his front line continued to under-perform.

Fellow striker Mark McCammon was unable to influence the game against Shrewsbury and third choice attacker Gary Mulligan missed the match with an ankle injury.

Stimson said: "Mark came in and for the first 10 or 15 minutes we didn’t look bad. In the first half he won a lot of first balls but we didn’t get around him for the second one.

"I thought Simeon Jackson had probably his worst performance of the season so far.

"He wasn’t as bright and Mark has admitted he’s not up to his fitness levels and isn’t firing on all cylinders. That’s something he’ll have to take upon himself and he’ll have to do a bit more to get to that level.

"It didn’t help that Gary Mulligan picked up a slight knee injury. In the middle of the week we thought he had a chance but it was too early for him and that’s why he wasn’t available."

Stimson is taking another look at Canadian striker Marcus Haber this week as he continues to seek much-needed reinforcements.

Another injury concern this week will be wide-man Dennis Oli who limped off with a bruised foot.
