Gillingham are set to break the 3,000 figure for season tickets with the new campaign still almost two months away.

Such has been the surge in demand for buying tickets at the cheaper price, the club extended the deadline for another week – until Sunday.

Season ticket sales last year, when the club were in League 2, were around the 2,600 mark.

The figure has already been smashed and chairman Paul Scally is understandably thrilled.

He said: “It has been amazing. There was such a big rush in the last few days that we felt some people might have missed out. It’s just a little gesture of goodwill.

"I am very pleased, very encouraged and I have had no backlash about the new rules on having photographs etcetera, just a couple of letters from people who said they used to buy one ticket and five of them used to share it. It has been very encouraging."
