Handford makes Welling return

PHIL Handford has returned to Welling as new manager Andy Ford's number two.

Handford, who turned down the chance to manage the Wings in the summer having previously served under Adrian Pennock, will be in the dugout for Saturday's Blue Square South clash at home to Cambridge City.

The former Welling midfielder ruled himself out of taking the main job again when Neil Smith was sacked at the start of this month.

But the lure of working with Ford again, having been his assistant at Gravesend previously, proved too good an opportunity to turn down.
