Charlie Harding scored two tries as Canterbury clinched their second National League 2 South win of the season, beating Chinnor 20-13 at Merton Lane on Saturday.
The victory ended the Oxfordshire club’s unbeaten four-match run, the only downside being young winger Angus Furneaux taken to hospital with a neck injury. However, club officials say it is not as bad as first feared.
Chinnor led 3-0 before tries by Grant Kay and Harding – the latter converting his own score – put Canterbury 12-3 up.
He then added his second, this time unconverted, to put the City club 17-3 ahead at half-time.
Harding’s penalty stretched the advantage to 20-3 before a converted try and a penalty reduced the arrears.
The victory leaves Canterbury eighth in the table.
