KM SUNSHINE Challenge champion Gregg Harrison travels to Portugal on Sunday ready to battle it out for the national title.

The 49-year-old civil servant, who plays off 17 at Gillingham Golf Club, will compete against more than a dozen other regional newspaper groups’ winners in the sunny Algarve.

Harrison, who won the KM title back in September with a thrilling play-off victory over Bob Davis (h12, Addington Palace) will have a tough act to follow as last year’s champion Steve Lovell also won the national crown.

However, Harrison, who will be joined by his wife Sue and 10-year-old daughter Louise, said: "I am not going with any aspirations.

"I know Steve won the national title last year but I’m not going to put myself under pressure by making any bold statements.

"I’ll try and play my best and what will be, will be. I’m just looking forward to playing on some great courses in some warm sunshine.

"I’ve never been to Portugal before and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since I won the KM title at Canterbury."

The regional champions will battle it out over three rounds of Stableford competition on different courses.

Home for the week will be the delighful clifftop village of Carvoeiro
