GILLINGHAM are winning the war of mind games over their problem pitch ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup, fourth round, tie against Leeds at Priestfield.

Leeds manager Terry Venables has responded to reports regarding adverse pitch conditions by ordering that every available pair of boots at Elland Road be brought to Gillingham.

Venables is determined nothing is left to chance regarding the pitch which has remained covered this week.

Leeds’ concern over Priestfield's notorious playing surface will please Gillingham player-manager Andy Hessenthaler and his players as they prepare for their match of the season.

With key striker Mark Viduka suffering a calf strain and doubtful for the game, plus injury problems reducing Leeds’ midfield options, the odds of an upset are increasing.

Hessenthaler, back with his players after a break with his players in La Manga, Spain, said: “The pitch is going to be a great leveller

Roland Edge, recalled to the Gills side against Leicester, is likely to keep his place at left-back as replacement for the injured Nyron Nosworthy.

Former Leeds striker Rod Wallace could have his wish granted with a place in the starting line-up alongside Mamady Sidibe with Guy Ipoua on the bench.

Should a replay be necessary, it will be at Elland Road on Tuesday, February 4, kick-off 7.45pm.

Gillingham have provisionally rearranged their home game against Norwich, postponed on New Year's Day, for February 4.

Supporters are reminded that Saturday's match kicks-off at 12.30pm and is live on Sky Sports 2.
