NICKY FORSTER returns to Priestfield on Saturday assured of a hostile reception from Gillingham supporters who have never forgiven him for quitting the club eight years ago.

Time has failed to heal the rift between the Reading striker and Gillingham fans - and Forster believes it never will. Two years ago he returned as part of a Gillingham All Star X1 to play in former goalkeeper Jim Stannard's benefit match and was roundly booed.

"I must be the only player in the history of the game to be booed and jeered in a testimonial game," said 29-year-old Forster. "I don't mind admitting I was completely taken aback but the Gillingham supporters clearly have long memories. There's no doubt in my mind that I will take a lot of stick on Saturday."

Though Gills fans have repeatedly poured scorn on him, he retains affection for the club. He explained: "Gillingham gave me my chance in professional football so I have fond memories of my time there. But football fans can be pretty unforgiving."

Gillingham's former top-scorer Marlon King is certain to start a match for the first time since last month's release from prison. Both King and Tommy Johnson did well against Chelsea and manager Andy Hessenthaler admits that has put pressure on Guy Ipoua and Mamady Sidibe.
