CATHERINE WEARING claimed her first medal at a national competition when she won bronze at the inaugural UK School Games in Glasgow.

She was one of more than 1,000 competitors who took part, competing for the South of England in the 80 metres hurdles.

Wearing was drawn in lane three alongside favourite Jennifer Taker, but just two hurdles into the race, the North West runner came to grief, as her hurdle smashed into Wearing, and ended her race.
