THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team put 10 past Peterborough Islanders without reply on Saturday to keep their 100 per cent English National Hockey League (South) record intact.

In front of 25 loyal travelling fans Carl Ambler fully deserved his shutout, but it was defenceman Anthony Lennon who picked up the man-of-the-match award.

The Mos had to endure a nervy start against the Islanders who were unbeaten at home, but as soon as AJ Smith (2+2) scored from a loose puck out in front at 10.34 game six of the season was all about the reigning champions.

Just 15 seconds later Mike Allaby (1+4) scored, before Grant Baxter broke through one-on-one and finished in style to give the Mos a 3-0 lead at 12.45.

Gary Dodds (2+1) got his first goal of the night at 15.15 when he poked home a rebound and the second period started with Dodds again on target. Nine seconds later it was 6-0 as Andy Smith (3+1) opened his account.

The Mos seventh was a shorthanded goal, when Andy Smith broke from the blueline and managed to squeeze the puck under David Whitwell at 29.36.

The final period started with another shorthanded goal as Andy Smith completed his hat-trick at 41.29 when his shot sneaked through back-up netminder Dan Jennings’ pads.

Like Whitwell, who had received two minor penalties for slashing and delay of the game, fellow goalkeeper Jennings fell foul of the officials getting a 10-minute misconduct penalty at 45.19

Peter Carey soon made it 9-0 and AJ Smith rounded off the evening with a powerful shot at 56.34.
