PHIL CHARD: many memories

IT HAS been an emotive week for the Gillingham-based ice hockey squad Invicta Dynamos. As as they paraded their English National Hockey League trophy, player-coach Phil Chard announced his retirement.

Canadian Chard, who was one of the founder players of the Dynamos and has taken part in 339 competitive matches for the club, said: “I will be continuing in an advisory role but will no longer be playing or coaching.

“I had a little girl, Madison, in October. I have waited a long time and don’t want to miss out on anything.”

The 34-year-old, from Rochester, who is a carpenter by trade, added: “I will remember Invicta for being a great family club. I will take a lot of great memories from my time here."

With one piece of silverware already in the bag, the Mos now turn their attentions to the play-offs on Sunday and a home clash with Basingstoke Buffalo, face-off 5.15pm.
