Che Stadhart's two goals weren't enough for victory

WELLING dropped two crucial points in their quest to reach the Nationwide Conference South play-offs against struggling Maidenhead United at Park View Road on Saturday.

The Wings made hard work of their seemingly simple task and were denied by an equaliser three minutes into stoppage time.

It had all looked like plain sailing when Che Stadhart put the Wings ahead on six minutes, firing home after Martin Carthy knocked down Steve Perkins cross.

Chances fell to Matt Bodkin, Danny Kedwell and Carthy before Maidenhead equalised with their first attack on 34 minutes.

Steve Hughes beat Chris Moore down the right wing and crossed to the far post where Dean Bradshaw volleyed home unmarked.

The visitors went ahead three minutes into the second half when Mark Graham's free-kick was powerfully headed home by Chris Wild.

Wings boss Adrian Pennock immediately introduced James Pinnock and Rob Owen and both players spurned chances to equalise.

The Wings were handed a lifeline on 72 minutes when Craig Lewington's lack of discipline cost him dear and his foul on Carthy was punished by Kedwell's penalty.

The Wings appeared to have put the game beyond the visitors with 10 minutes left when great work by Kedwell presented Stadhart with an open goal.

But Maidenhead weren't beaten and somehow forced the ball home from a 93rd minute corner - substitute Yashma Romeo getting the final touch.
