JEFFERS: has found first-team chances limited since leaving the Gunners

CHARLTON are ready to offer Francis Jeffers to Ipswich in a bid to land England under-21 striker Darren Bent.

Bent is top of Alan Curbishley’s wish list as he seeks to sharpen a jaded attack.

Ipswich twice rejected Charlton’s advances for the 21-year-old last season but could now accept after they again failed to make the Premiership.

Manager Joe Royle, who knows Jeffers from his time at Everton in the 90s, is under pressure to trim his wage bill and could find the cash plus player offer appealing.

Charlton have put together a £3.2million package for Bent with Jeffers rated at £1m.

Bent has told Ipswich that he wants a move and Royle confirmed: "We have two clubs showing an interest in Darren. There have been no bids but I feel they may be forthcoming in the near future."

Jeffers has found first-team opportunities limited since arriving from Arsenal for £2.5m.

Meanwhile, Denmark international winger Dennis Rommedahl has denied talk that he wants to rejoin PSV.

Rommedahl, who cost £2m last summer, has been training with PSV but scotched talk he is ready to quit England.

He explained: "The national manager asked me to train somewhere before Denmark’s next World Cup qualifiers. I asked PSV and they said fine. What I have been experiencing at Charlton was something I really wanted and want for the future as well."

French sources claim left-back Kelly Youga has agreed a one-year contract with Charlton following his release by French champions Lyon.
