GILLINGHAM boss Ronnie Jepson has spoken about the two players who made their debuts in Saturday's 5-0 beating at Carlisle.

Both Dale Tonge and Felix Bastians played the full 90 minutes after Jepson bolstered his squad on transfer deadline day for loan signings.

The window closed for new signings on Thursday last week and Jepson had just enough time to bring in Bastians, having already signed Tonge on a one-month loan from Championship club Barnsley.

Bastians, a German under-18 midfielder, will stay at the club until the end of the season after joining on loan from Nottingham Forest.

The teenager, who has been on loan at Northwich and Halifax this season, played on the wing at Carlisle and showed promise with several decent deliveries.

Jepson said: "Bastians did well on the left for us. He put some great crosses in and Gary Mulligan tried to get on the end of them. We had to bring Tongue in and he’s done okay."

Jepson will have more to choose from in midfield this coming Saturday as Andrew Crofts (international duty) and Michael Flynn (rib injury) are back and Clint Easton should have overcome his sickness bug by then.

Wantaway midfielder Matt Jarvis remains troubled by a groin injury though and Mark Bentley will be out through suspension following Saturday’s dismissal at Carlisle.
