Danny Kedwell could finally be heading for a hernia operation after admitting to playing through pain on Saturday.

Gillingham’s leading scorer will wait until Monday before deciding which route to take.

Up until the weekend his problems hadn’t affected him until the day after a game.

“I did actually feel it (during the game) and it’s the first time I have,” said the 10-goal striker, who is out of contract this summer.

“I have to speak to the physio and see where I go from here. In the last 10 minutes of the game it really started to hurt me.

“If it is still hurting (on Monday) I think I should go and get it done because I am not 100% and it isn’t fair on the players, the manager and the fans.

“I don’t want to miss any games, that’s why I have told them to cancel it (twice before). I want to carry on playing but sometimes that’s the worst way to do it and I need to make sure I am 100% fit for the club and the boys.”

The operation is expected to sideline Kedwell for up to a month.
