GREAT OPPORTUNITY: Alamgir Sheriyar
GRAHAM FORD: "Sheri has worked really hard and is on the fringes of a first team game here"

KENT'S left-arm swing bowler Alamgir Sheriyar has agreed to join his former club Worcestershire on a month’s loan.

The Birmingham-born player becomes the first to go out under the new scheme agreed last week between the counties, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the players’ union, the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

Sheriyar, who is in the third and final year of his Kent deal, posed for photographs in Kent colours at the county’s press day on Tuesday before driving to Derby to appear for his old club in tomorrow's opening Frizzell Championship Division 2 game.

Worcestershire contacted Kent to take on Sheriyar after injury and unavailability left their seam attack severely weakened.

Under the deal, Worcestershire pick up Sheriyar’s wage bill whilst allowing the player valuable, early season practice.

In welcoming the move, Kent chief executive Paul Millman, said: "We are delighted to be able to help Worcestershire out. We believe the loan system to be an imaginative and innovative way of providing cricketers with opportunities they might not otherwise have had.

"We hope that the use of this rule may catch on and become as popular as it has in other sports."

Kent’s new director of cricket Graham Ford also heralded the plan, saying it was best for the player and useful for both clubs.

"Sheri has worked really hard this pre-season and is on the fringes of a first team game here, but we see this as a great opportunity for him to prove what he can do," said Ford.

"I will be going up to take a look at him play for Worcestershire during his loan spell and make sure he’s okay and to see him perform in that environment."
