David Fulton: Set for a possible farewell appearance

Kent v Middlesex

KENT look set for a low key end to their county campaign from tomorrow when they welcome already relegated Middlesex for a four-day game with nothing resting on it other than pride.

With just one win to their credit from 15 starts, Middlesex will arrive at St Lawrence already knowing their destiny lies in Division 2 leaving Durham and Yorkshire, who clash at Headingley, to effectively play-off to avoid the other relegation slot.

Without both overseas players and a lengthy injury list, Kent have only the walking wounded and fatigued left to select from as they aim for a fifth win, but in the knowledge that they are unable to improve on a fifth-place finish this term.

To make matters worse, skipper Rob Key, whose wife Fleur recently gave birth to their baby daughter Aaliyah, has to miss the game for personal reasons, so Martin van Jaarsveld takes over at the helm.

Key’s absence also allows Kent to play former skipper David Fulton for a possible swan-song appearance – his contract expires at the end of the month.

With Min Patel still struggling with back spasms, Rob Ferley stands by for a second championship appearance of the summer while Simon Cusden who, like Ferley and Fulton, is also out of contract come October – is also included in the squad.

The game is scheduled to start at 10.30am each day.

Kent from: Denly, Fulton, van Jaarsveld, Walker, Stevens, Dexter, Jones, Tredwell, Cook, Joseph, Ferley, Cusden.
