BARRY BRIGHT has emerged as a key power-broker in deciding whether or not Sven Goran Eriksson has a future as England’s head coach.

Mr Bright, who is chairman of the Kent County FA, will be spirited away with the 13 other members of the FA board on August 5 to discuss Eriksson's future following allegations of an affair with a secretary employed at Soho Square.

Mr Bright is also the FA's representative on Uefa. He will cut short Uefa business in Germany to fly back for the meeting at a top-secret venue.

He said: "I have no idea where the meeting is because the FA are desperate to hold it away from the glare of the media. All I know is that I shall be met at the airport by a car that will take me to the meeting which is somewhere in London."

Asked about his views on Eriksson, he said: "I have opinions but it would be entirely inappropriate to go public. Like most people I'm not in possession of the full facts.

"Because I've been away from Soho Square in Manchester and Birmingham on FA business I've been keeping up to date with events by reading the papers like everyone else."

He did confirm, however, that he had spoken to FA chairman Geoff Thompson by phone about the matter.

Mr Bright has worked as chief executive for both Gillingham and Sittingbourne prior to working full-time for the FA.
