Kent were humbled by an innings and 11 runs at Glamorgan on Wednesday afternoon to suffer their third defeat of the Championship campaign and stay third-bottom of Division 2.

The visitors won the toss in Cardiff and opted to bat first, making a strong start with Daniel Bell-Drummond (39) and Rob Key (63) putting on 74 for the opening wicket.

However Bell-Drummond and Championship debutant Fabian Cowdrey (9) fell to spinner Andrew Salter, while Brendan Nash, Darren Stevens and Sam Billings all failed to reach 20 as the visitors slipped to 157-6.

Ben Harmison (33) and Adam Ball (42) steered the hosts past 200 but only Mitch Claydon (25) could contribute further runs as Kent were 253 all-out with Michael Hogan claiming 5-58 on his way to a 10-wicket match performance.

In reply, two monster stands made the difference.

Robbie Joseph - in for the injured Doug Bollinger - claimed an early wicket but Jacques Rudolph (103) and Mark Wallace (82) put on 181 for the second wicket and despite two quick wickets for Adam Riley (5-157) and another for Joseph, Chris Cooke (92) and Jim Allenby (100) guided the hosts from 215-4 to 419-4 before Claydon trapped Allenby leg before.

Graham Wagg added a quickfire 66 as Glamorgan were dismissed for 527 on the third day, 274 infront.

Bell-Drummond played on from the first ball of Kent’s second innings and Key (1) and Cowdrey (9) soon followed him back to the dressing room to leave Kent on 25-3 and the game all but up.

Nash (38) and Harmison (28) provided brief resistance but both went before the close on the third day with Kent on 131-5 overnight.

Stevens passed 12,000 First Class runs on his way to 60 from 57 balls but he departed to make it 146-6 on Wednesday morning, and though Ball cracked 50 and Adam Riley claimed a career-best 23 not out, the visitors were unable to make the hosts bat again, having to settle for three points from the contest.
