CAPTAIN: Charlotte Edwards

KENT have won the Liverpool Victoria Women's County Championship for the first time.

Skipper Charlotte Edwards lifted the trophy after her side beat title-holders Sussex by nine wickets at Uppingham in their final match.

It is the county's maiden title win after 12 years of trying.

Edwards was brilliantly supported by her Kent Invicta colleagues Marsha Davies and Penny Arnold, as well as a talented crop of cricketers from Kent Cricket Board's girls development programme.

The side, which is sponsored by SeaFrance, won five of their six games, the other being abandoned as a draw due to rain.

Bill Laidlaw, sales director of SeaFrance, said: "Kent were magnificent and it was a privilege to be there to see them win.

"They are a credit to the county and this was a brilliant day for everyone who has worked so hard for women’s cricket in Kent."

Kent women will parade the trophy at the St Lawrence Ground on Friday during the tea interval of Kent’s Canterbury Week championship match with Hampshire.
