Yasir Arafat misses the game at North Marine Road

Yorkshire v Kent

HEAVY morning rain led to two delays on the opening day of Kent's LV Championship match with Yorkshire in Scarborough.

Umpires Neil Bainton and Graham Burgess inspected conditions at 11.15am and decided play could start by 11.45am, soon after Kent skipper Rob Key won the toss and elected to bat.

The visiting opening pair added 21 without alarm in 8.3 overs before the heavens opened again and forced the players to flee for cover.

The umpires elected to take an early lunch at 1.05pm, but prospects for a quick re-start remain bleak.

As expected, Key selected Martin Saggers for his season's championship debut for Kent ahead of Yasir Arafat, who is resting a side strain.

Kent: Key, Denly, van Jaarsveld, Tredwell, Stevens, Dexter, Jones, Hall, McLaren, Cook, Saggers.

Score: Kent 21 without loss after 8.3 overs - rain stopped play.
