Kent v Lancashire

Kent will look to move well clear of the Division 1 relegation zone and re-ignite their outside title hopes with an improved showing in their next LV County Championship match against Lancashire starting in Canterbury on Wednesday.

The game should mark a second successive championship start for Amjad Khan, a rare thing during his injury-ravaged past 18 months.

Looking forward to the four-day game Khan said: "It's not for me to decide, but I'd like to think I will be playing after my performances of late.

"Lancashire are a similar side to us in many ways with good depth to their squad, but without Flintoff and Anderson in their side it maybe a good time to play them.

Even so, we know it will be a hard game as they'll put out a good side no matter."

Kent will have a couple of fitness considerations and may opt to rest both Pakistan all-rounders Yasir Arafat (side) and Azhar Mahmood (knee).

That would allow Khan to share the new ball with in-form Robbie Joseph, and for Ryan McLaren and possibly Martin Saggers or Simon Cook to add support.

The other quandary is the form of South African Kolpak all-rounder Justin Kemp, who has been struggling for runs and full fitness of late, having missed the trip to Durham with back spasms.

It may be that skipper Rob Key choses to rest Kemp and play experienced left-hander Matt Walker or young batsman Neil Dexter instead.
