Marvin Sordell scored the first hat-trick of his career as Charlton pulled away from the Championship relegation zone with a superb comeback victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Addicks were two down inside eight minutes and looking at dropping into the bottom three but Sordell's treble saw them climb three places to 18th, two points clear of danger.

Atdhe Nuhiu put the Owls ahead on three minutes following a clearance from Miguel Llera, then he set up Chris Maguire for the second goal just five minutes later.

Striker Sordell launched the Addicks' fightback by finishing Callum Harriott's pass on 10 minutes and the pair combined again for the equaliser two minutes before half-time.

Sordell completed the turnaround and doubled his goals tally for the season after capitalising on a poor pass from Nuhiu on 63 minutes.

Charlton boss Jose Riga was delighted with his on-loan matchwinner.

He said: "I discuss a lot with Marvin because I know what he has done in the past and we were looking to be able to do it again.

“During the training sessions we see him doing very well, so he did maybe what we expected. Maybe not three goals but he did very well."
