Kent Football League change name to Southern Counties East Football League for 2013/14 season

The Kent League will now be known as the Southern Counties East League after clubs approved the name change on Saturday.

A unanimous vote at the league's annual meeting at the Thistle Hotel in Brands Hatch rubber-stamped the change, which was originally cleared by the Football Association at the start of last week. The move was designed to reflect the changing landscape of the league.

League chairman Denise Richmond told the annual meeting that the FA were pleased that the league had put forward the name change while Kent FA vice-chairman Philip Smith later told clubs at the annual luncheon: "The football world is changing and I congratulate the league on making this decision."

Although not in attendance, Crowborough Athletic and Rye United were accepted into the Premier Division, subject to the outcome of their appeal at moving across from the Sussex League which is due to be heard on July 3.

The league will run without Division 1 this season due to a lack of numbers, although there will be a floodlight competition open to clubs at all levels.

Tony Day took over as league secretary from Roy Vinter while Don McLeod was appointed assistant referees secretary.
