New boy's brace seals fine friendly win

DARREN BENT increased his pre-season tally to seven in seven games with both goals in Charlton’s 2-0 win against Dutch giants Feyenoord in Wednesday’s first pre-season friendly at The Valley.

Two goals in as many minutes from Charlton’s £3million man from Ipswich sunk the Dutch masters as the Addicks stretched their unbeaten sequence to six in senior pre-season fixtures.

In a Charlton dominated first half, Bent opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a curling shot that struck the inside of a post and rebounded in off Feyenoord goalkeeper Patrick Lodewijks.

He increased the lead a minute later with a powerful header from Dennis Rommedahl’s cross.

Charlton play their final senior pre-season game at home to AEK Athens on Saturday at The Valley, kick off 3pm.

On Monday, a Charlton X1 visit Gravesend to mark the centenary of football at Stonebridge Road.

Attendance: 9,034.
