GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson hopes new signing Aaron Brown can make the left side of midfield his own to fill the gap vacated by Matt Jarvis.

With Barry Cogan set to operate down the right flank next season, Brown has the chance to cement his place in the team.

Jepson said: "He's been around for a while and knows this level well. He's versatile down the left side.

"He's not got the same pace as Matt Jarvis but can deliver a top drawer cross."

The Gills boss has already earmarked Cogan as someone who can help replace the departed Jarvis.

Last month he said of his new signing: "He can be another Matt Jarvis. He's got good skills and dribbling and hopefully we can bring out the best in him."

Meanwhile, the Gills open their pre-season campaign on Wednesday with a friendly against Ramsgate at Southwood. The game kicks-off at 7.30pm.
