NUTTER: "I was fortunate to come here with people I knew and so settling in has been fine"

GILLINGHAM left-back John Nutter is settling into life at Priestfield after his loan move from Stevenage became officially permanent earlier this month.

The 25-year-old signed from the Blue Square Premier side on loan in November making two appearances before signing on January 4.

He said: "I had to wait a while for my chance as it was a big step up but everyone has been welcoming and I have enjoyed the challenge.

"I was fortunate to come here with people I knew and so settling in has been fine.

"I just want to carry on enjoying playing and the more I play, hopefully the better I will get."

Nutter's role in the back-line has come at a time when manager Mark Stimson has concentrated on stopping the concession of silly goals.

Nutter said: "Since the gaffer has come in we have been tighter at the back and certainly not conceded so many goals in the last few weeks.

"We want to play a bit better than we have done in the last two games at home, we didn't play particularly well against Oldham but still got a point with 10 men, which stands us in good stead."
