Peter Taylor felt the better team lost on Saturday.

The Gills boss saw his team suffer a 1-0 defeat at Oldham despite creating numerous chances.

“I can’t believe we haven’t won to be perfectly honest,” said Taylor.

“We had enough chances, a lot more chances than the opposition and their goalkeeper pulled off some wonderful saves.

“There were a couple of chances we had in the first half where he didn’t need to pull off saves, because our finishing wasn’t good enough and after that some of our finishing was very good, and he made some good saves.

“I don’t think the players had a great deal of luck in front of goal and I thought we played some excellent football in the first half.

“It wasn’t such good football in the second half but we still created some good chances.

“The goalkeeper certainly had a worldy and he made some very important saves there and he went for crosses to take the pressure off Oldham. He has had a good day and that’s bad luck for us.”

Taylor made six changes to his starting XI after defeat to Sheffield United in the week.

Leading scorer Cody McDonald started on the bench because the Gills boss felt he “looked tired” against United.

He dropped young midfielder Bradley Dack from the squad completely, saying: “Dack to me, i thought didn’t look himself on Wednesday night, simple as that.

“I wanted some fresh legs out there and the players all agreed with it. The way they played in the first half, it was the right thing to do.

“All we needed was some goals. It probably means that Peter Taylor has picked the wrong team now because we have lost the match but if you look at the 90 minutes I don’t think that was the case.”

Michael Harriman missed out with a slight hamstring strain.
