Alan Pardew says the club is not interested in Grzegorz Rasiak (pictured)

MANAGER Alan Pardew has distanced Charlton from persistent transfer rumours linking the club with a £2million move for Southampton's Poland international striker Grzegorz Rasiak.

As he prepared for Saturday's Championship match against the Saints at St Mary's Pardew insisted: "There have been no phone-calls between the two clubs and I want to dismiss these stories as being without foundation."

He admitted that enquiries had been made for other players but they would remain private.

The Addicks visit Southampton looking to end a dismal sequence of three consecutive defeats in a week, which has undermined their credentials as promotion contenders.

He said: "I'm not getting jumpy over what was a very bad week for us because the previous performances had been very good.

"The reaction of the players has been extremely good and I've been pleased with their attitudes in training.

"But on the back of those three defeats I'm keeping my cards very close to my chest regarding Saturday's selection.

"What I will say is that technically we've a good squad, though we've struggled in a couple of games with the physical side."

Long-term injury casualties Chris Powell and Matt Holland will join the squad at Southampton and have an outside chance of being fit for Tuesday's match away to Bristol City.

Pardew had good news for new Gillingham manager Mark Stimson over the loan of striker Chris Dickson.

He reiterated: "I do feel he's doing well where he is and that is the right place for him at the moment. At some point we will want him back, but not at this time."
