PAUL BOOTH: attracting considerable attention - on and off the field

WELLING have turned down a four-figure bid from Conference South rivals Cambridge City for leading scorer Paul Booth.

Wings boss Adrian Pennock laughed off the £2,000 offer for Booth who took his tally for the season to 17 goals after scoring in the 4-0 drubbing of Carshalton last Saturday.

Pennock confirmed: "I turned the bid down straight away. I don’t want Paul Booth to leave, he has been fantastic since I’ve been here and to score that many goals in a team at the bottom of the table is a great effort.

"The offer was miles away from what we would even consider, and I had to look twice when I saw it because I thought they had missed a nought off. But even £20,000 wouldn’t be enough for me to consider it."

Pennock also disclosed that Booth has indicated a desire to stay at Park View Road next season and honour his contract which he extended last season, despite rumours of the striker wanting to move nearer his Peterborough base.

"I spoke to Paul last week and told him about Cambridge but he is more than happy to stay at Welling for next season as well," said Pennock.

"If the travelling does get too much for him then we’ll sit down and be honest but at the present time he is going nowhere.

"Paul is a lovely lad, he is honest and works hard and it will take a lot of money for me to consider selling him."
