WELLING manager Adrian Pennock will stress to his players the importance of the first goal ahead of Saturday's trip to Thurrock.

The Wings are looking to bounce back from the Boxing Day defeat to big-spending Fisher and Pennock knows that a bright start will hold the key.

"If we can get that first goal it will be a massive lift for us," he said. "It's a tough game. Thurrock are a hard team to play against and we need our fans to lift us again."

Welling are without the suspended Jamie Day but welcome back on-loan defender Lawrie Wilson who missed the Fisher defeat through a one-match ban for his red card at Cambridge.

Former Thurrock pair Steve Harper and Mark Goodfellow face a race against time to be fit and are both rated at 50/50 while leading scorer Danny Kedwell and Che Stadhart are also doubtful.
