Soccer legend Bill Shankly summed it up: "Some people think football is a matter of life and death - but it's much more important than that."

And Ebbsfleet fans must have known exactly what he meant, especially as the three minutes of stoppage time seemed to drag on for ever.

Then, the joy of the final whistle and the Fleet had done what not so long ago seemed an unimaginable dream.
