It was a special day for the Hessenthalers on Saturday.

While Jake was making his first Gills league start at Priestfield, his father Andy was the club’s special guest for the day. Former player and boss Andy was presented to the crowd before kick-off.

“Andy spoke to me in the week but I never told him I was going to start Jake,” said Gills boss Peter Taylor.

“It was a proud moment for Andy to be going around the pitch. I had Andy as a player when he was 21 and so Jake starts a little bit earlier.

“He is a little bit the same. He still makes some good and bad decisions and he might be slightly better than Andy on the ball.

“If he gets half of what Andy had, then he will be a good player.”
