Gillingham chairman Paul Scally insists the club don’t have to sell to survive.

Star striker Simeon Jackson is one of several players attracting interest from bigger teams but Mr Scally won’t be selling anyone during the current transfer window unless the price is right.

“We’re not looking to sell and we’ve got a budget now where we can run comfortably for the next two or three years,” he said.

“We’re not going to have to sell to survive. We’ve got ourselves in a position where we can just about survive as we are. That’s not to say that a player can’t be sold as all players have a price but we’re not under pressure to sell and we want to build on what we’ve got.”

Mr Scally knows that a big money move for Jackson, or any other member of the squad, would have to be considered but he doesn’t want to lose the foundations of what manager Mark Stimson is building.

He said: “Simeon Jackson is part of what we’re doing here to go forward but if someone came in with an offer that is reasonable, and if we felt it was right, then we would look at it.”
