WALMER youngster Sam Northeast has had a cricket season to remember. Thirteen-year-old Sam scored 1,754 runs in 19 innings at a staggering average of 91.5 for Wellesley House School in Broadstairs where he is a boarder.

His efforts helped Wellesley House win the JET national prep school 25-over championship, in which they beat Millfield Junior School in the final.

Sam, from Liverpool Road, Walmer, who is a member of Sandwich Town CC, also played a major role as Wellesley won a separate quadrangular prep school tournament, scoring 124 not out, 96, 100 not out and 135 in four matches.

He has played for Kent Under-13 and has now been selected for the South of England Under-13 team.

Sam’s total runs for the season more than doubled Graham Cowdrey’s school record of 854 runs in 1977 from a similar number of innings.
