Sheringham brace earns Wings a point

Welling 2 AFC Wimbledon 2

Charlie Sheringham scored his first league goals since August as Welling twice came from behind to claim a point against high-flying AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

A season's best crowd of 1,625 watched on as Sheringham produced two close range finishes to extend Welling's unbeaten run.

The Wings had fallen behind as early as the fifth minute when a glaring error by Wings keeper Jamie Turner allowed Jon Main's powder puff strike to trickle in at the near post.

Former Welling striker Danny Kedwell twice missed good opportunities to double the lead and Sheringham made them pay in the 23rd minute when he turned the ball in from close range.

Welling's joy was short-lived as they defended poorly from a Chris Hussey free-kick two mintues later and Ben Judge turned the ball home.

Former Tonbridge striker Main saw his lob come off the top of the crossbar on the stroke of half-time and the number of missed chances for the visitors was to prove crucial.

Welling more than matched them in the second half with Jack Parkinson enjoying an excellent league debut.

Sheringham levelled six minutes after the break, heading home Lee Blackburn's free-kick.

Chances came at both ends but Kedwell was denied a goal on his return to Park View Road, while Loui Fazakerley was out of luck with a near post effort at the other end.
