Sorondo out for weeks with stress fracture

CHARLTON have suffered a major injury blow with the loss of central defender Gonzalo Sorondo for six to eight weeks.

Manager Iain Dowie disclosed that the Uruguayan international sustained a stress fracture in a back joint in a challenge with West Ham striker Marlon Harewood after coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 defeat at Upton Park.

“He stiffened up and a scan showed the fracture,” said boss Iain Dowie. “He’ll be out for four to six weeks, which is a disappointment because he brings pace to the defence.”

Charlton are already without midfielder Jerome Thomas, who is recovering after breaking a foot during the club’s pre-season preparation.
