Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has tried bringing in new faces to freshen up their attack but nobody is expected to arrive in the near future.

The Gills strikers have been struggling in front of goal and were unable to find the back of the net again on Saturday in a 2-0 defeat at Rotherham.

“We’ve tried every single avenue,” said Stimson. “But nobody wants to let their gems go so we’re working with a group of players who I think are good enough.

“Since the Villa game, apart from last week and this Saturday, (we’ve) been on a good run.”

Gillingham have slipped to 10th in League 2 but now face three home games in a row.

“We have to capitalise on these home games,” said Stimson.

“It may be tough as the pitch might not suit the way I like my teams to play and I might have to change that a bit. But I don’t really care how we play as long as we win those three games.

“If we play scruffy and win every one, I don’t care. There’s no point playing really well and getting beaten now because a loss is no good to anyone.

“We want to go out on the front foot and win, and put this club where it should be, competing for automatic promotion.”
